MOODY, Texas — The Crawford Pirates beat the Moody Bearcats 24-6 on Thursday night, keeping their district record spotless and improving to 7-1 on the season.
The game was delayed by lightning, pushing kickoff to 7:45 p.m., but that didn’t slow down the Pirates’ momentum once play began. Freshman quarterback Jackson Huey opened the scoring drive by connecting with Travis Stanford for a big first down. Moments later, Huey handed the ball off to running back Cooper Denard, who scored the game’s first touchdown.
Moody’s Santiago Castillo blocked the extra point, leaving Crawford ahead 6-0 early. In the second quarter, Denard struck again, this time rushing straight up the middle for his second touchdown of the night, giving the Pirates a 12-0 lead.
