[DES MOINES, Iowa] — The Iowa Department of Education is welcoming an audit announced by Auditor Rob Sand regarding its licensing procedures alongside the Board of Educational Examiners.
The Department expressed openness to any review of the examiners' implementation of Iowa's licensing and background check procedures.
The Department of Education stated that the Board is currently implementing the 'SAVE' verification process. This process, required by Gov. Kim Reynolds through an executive order earlier this month, verifies an applicant's immigration status.
This development follows the arrest of former Des Moines Schools Superintendent Ian Roberts. Officials stated he is in the country illegally. Roberts was taken into custody by ICE late last month and now faces federal charges.
