DECORAH, Iowa (KCRG) - Decorah’s volunteer fire department says its aging fire station is putting firefighters in danger as structural problems mount and space becomes increasingly limited.
The fire station is experiencing major structural issues both inside and outside the building. The ground beneath the station is settling, forcing fire trucks to point inward due to space constraints.
Jeff Ode, who has been a volunteer firefighter for 39 years, said the building’s problems have been compounding over time.
“It’s just one more thing. The roof needs to be replaced. The HVAC needs replacement. Obviously this brick needs replacement,” Ode said.
