MADISON (WKOW) -– Ridglan Farms has filed a lawsuit against the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) this week. The farm claims it requested records in March but is still waiting for them seven months later.
Ridglan Farms is one of only two large breeders of dogs for experimentation in the United States. Animal advocates have long reported severe conditions and suspected animal cruelty at the farm. In April 2017, three animal rights activists were charged with stealing beagles from the farm, but the case was dismissed in 2024.
Jim Newmann, a spokesperson for Ridglan Farms, said they need the records to respond to claims from critics and questions from DATCP.
