Messiah University told PennLive Thursday it is investigating an off-campus hazing incident involving the men’s lacrosse team and has placed the program on an interim suspension.

Messiah spokesperson Carla Gross said the investigation stems from an event in mid-September.

“The University takes all reports of interpersonal harm, including hazing, with the utmost seriousness. Hazing includes a spectrum of harmful experiences under state and federal law. And while these allegations would qualify as hazing per university policy, it is appropriate to acknowledge that these specific allegations do not include violence,” Gross said in a statement to PennLive.
