In a dramatic escalation of tensions with Ottawa, US President Donald Trump on Thursday night announced that he was terminating all trade negotiations with Canada, accusing the country of “egregious behaviour” following the airing of a controversial television advertisement criticising US tariffs.
“The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement — which is FAKE — featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about tariffs,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED.”
