The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has announced the formation of a new low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal, which is set to bring heavy rains to the northern districts of Tamil Nadu from Sunday (October 26, 2025).

According to the latest RMC bulletin, under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining south Andaman Sea, a low-pressure area has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal as of 5.30 a.m. on Friday (October 24). It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more defined over the next 24 hours.

The new weather system comes even as an active Northeast monsoon and associated weather systems continue to bring rainfall across Tamil Nadu.
