DEARBORN – When the boys’ soccer season starts in August, there more than 100 teams in Division 2 that take to their respective pitches, vying for a coveted spot in the MHSAA finals at season’s end. After Thursday night’s final whistle, it’s down to four.

Divine Child High School played host to two of the state’s best on Thursday when No. 4-ranked Warren De La Salle Collegiate and No. 9-ranked Melvindale battled it out for the regional title.

Despite a close 40 minutes early on, it was the D2 defending champion Pilots from De La Salle advancing to next week’s state semifinals with a 3-0 win over the Cardinals.

Although they held a 1-0 lead at halftime, it wasn’t the Pilots’ best game according to coach Thaier Mukhtar.
