Misty Copeland, who famously became the first Black woman to be promoted to principal dancer in American Ballet Theatre's 75-year history, took her final bow at ABT's gala this week. From 2000 until 2008, she was the only Black female dancer in the entire company. SYTYCD contestant Danny Tidwell was the only Black male dancer in the company until he left in 2005. Misty joined the corps de ballet in 2001 and was promoted to soloist in 2007. She made history in 2015 when she was promoted to principal.
