Job Point announced Oct. 16 it was given the go-ahead by the Missouri Charter Public School Commission to establish a charter school in Boone County .
The job training organization from the beginning has said the creation of the school aimed at continuing its YouthBuild program, which will cease to have federal funding by 2028. Still, creation of a charter school has sparked concerns at Columbia Public Schools about the potential financial effect on the district. Job Point President and CEO John Scalise downplayed these in a recent interview with the Tribune , saying that Job Point had reached out to CPS early on to be a potential charter school sponsor.
