Fall is all about that satisfying crunch. The crisp leaves under your boots, scattered acorns on the forest floor and that first bite of a Michigan apple.

Michigan recently ripened into the nation’s No. 2 apple producer, according to USDA NASS data from August 2024. Previously the state held third place.

The Great Lakes State has 17.6 million apple trees in commercial production, according to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

Lines of trees sit on 38,000 acres of apple orchards in the state.

Good news for Michiganders, 50% of all Michigan apples are sold fresh and ready to eat, according to the Michigan Apple Committee.
