Pensioners could automatically qualify for £300 payment View Image
Certain pensioners are set to receive a cash boost of up to £300 this winter. Known as the Winter Fuel Payment, this money is designed to help with heating bills.
Previously, all people of State Pension age were eligible for this payment, regardless of their income. However, changes implemented by the Labour Government now mean that only those pensioners with an income of less than £35,000 a year qualify.
If your income exceeds £35,000 a year, you will still receive the payment, but it will be reclaimed through taxes by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Depending on when you were born, you will either receive £200 (if born between 22 September 1945 and 21 September 1959) or £300 (if born before 22 September 1945).
