As Halloween approaches, a notorious supernatural being has increased its presence in Edinburgh.
The Mackenzie Poltergeist haunts Greyfriars Kirkyard from its lair, a tomb known as the "Black Mausoleum" behind the high walls and locked gates of an area known as the Covenanter’s Prison.
It is thought to be the spirit of Sir George Mackenzie, a 17th-century Lord Advocate who persecuted rebel Covenanters.
It has been suggested the poltergeist is a supernatural entity, a pheromone cloud, a demon or a set of psychosomatic and hysterical reactions.
Hundreds of people have reported attacks after visiting the area. Local tour company City of the Dead Tours documents the reports, and shares the disturbing visible injuries on social media.
