A raid by the Burmese military junta this week on the Chinese mafia-run compound in KK Park in Myanmar has forced around 700 trafficked foreign nationals, including dozens of Indians, working there to flee. Many of them have fled to neighbouring Thailand by swimming across the Moei River, the Thai army said.

While some fleeing individuals drowned in the river's strong currents, many escaped from KK Park to other parts of Myanmar's Myawaddy region rather than crossing into Thailand, fearing deportation, reported the Thai Public Broadcasting Service.

The raids were conducted in Myanmar's notorious Myawaddy region, which is dubbed the "global capital of scams" , on Wednesday night.
