MITCHELLVILLE, Iowa —

The Polk County Sheriff's Office has denied involvement in the confiscation of documents in Mitchellville, responding to claims made in a political flyer.

County officials stated on social media, "The Polk County Sheriff's Office was not involved in 'confiscating' any files in Mitchellville."

KCCI was present in August when a deputy assisted the State Auditor's Office in collecting documents from city hall, with the county explaining their presence was only for security purposes. The city had approved the state audit in June.

Officials stressed on social media, "The Polk County Sheriff's Office does not endorse political candidates and remains strictly neutral in all electoral matters."
