HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is urging workers across the UK to keep an eye out for one particular letter that could mean they're owed an average of £473. Both self-employed and fully employed workers could receive a letter from HMRC telling them they're eligible for a tax refund.

Typically, you're owed money back on the tax you pay each year if it's been found that you paid more than you were supposed to. This can be due to a wide variety of reasons, such as being on the incorrect tax code which dictates how much you pay to HMRC from your wages via the PAYE system.

Keep in mind that you only have four years from the end of each tax year to claim a refund for an overpayment. This means workers who are due an overpayment from the 2021/22 tax year have until April 5, 2026 to m
