Sangli, Maharashtra, October 24, 2025: The town of in Sangli district has officially been renamed , following approval from the central government. The renaming proposal, initiated by the state government, has now been formally sanctioned, making Ishwarpur the town’s official name.

Islampur has held political significance in the Sangli region, and the decision to rename it was part of a broader initiative by the Mahayuti government to rename several towns and districts across Maharashtra since coming to power.
