POWELL, Ohio —
The Columbus Zoo is welcoming a new member to its zoo family this week.

The baby, weighing in at 222 pounds, is doing well, as is mom.
The zoo says both are being watched carefully by the Animal Care and Conservation Medicine teams.
The zoo said Phoebe began showing signs of labor on Tuesday and "handled the birth with ease."
"Her care team had spent months proactively training with her to prepare for this moment, ensuring everything went smoothly when the time came," the zoo said in a post to Facebook.
Mom and baby are currently behind the scenes and not yet viewable to the public so they can bond privately.
