Drivers risk £160 fines if they are spotted on ANPR cameras next week - amid temporary road closures for October half-term . Under the Scool Streets initiative, councils restrict access to traffic outside some schools at opening and closing times.

This is done using Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) to temporarily close some roads to remove traffic outside of schools. These measures will only be in place during term time at the school's opening and closing times.

But sometimes the tech is left on over half-term, motorists are warned. Chris Coops, a specialist at number plate experts Mr Plates explained: “October half-term starts this week for many areas, but drivers are wrongly assuming the School Streets restrictions are lifted automatically.
