SPRINGFIELD – For nearly seven minutes, the Westfield High School girls soccer team enjoyed an advantage against one of Western Massachusetts’ toughest tournament teams. Unfortunately for the Bombers, it’s what happened after that that determined their fate.

No. 2 Pope Francis scored three unanswered goals to avoid an upset and rally past seventh-seeded Westfield 3-1 Thursday evening in the Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference girls soccer quarterfinals.
