Beginning next year, the state of Georgia will use postseason rankings to determine playoff seedings for its high school teams.
Georgia High School Association associate director Donn Corr said the system will be similar to the system the NCAA uses, the ratings performance index.
The goal is to get the best teams in the playoffs in every sport. Some Alabama coaches – particularly in the sports of football and basketball – have argued for a similar system. In the current AHSAA football playoff system, the top four teams from each region qualify for the postseason – regardless of how strong or deep a particular region might be.
