Boys and Girls Club of Southcentral Alaska paused all programming throughout the state indefinitely on Oct. 20, citing financial strain.
The non-profit is based in Anchorage and oversees 20 clubhouses throughout the state, including the one in Fairbanks. Their Oct. 16 announcement called the closure temporary, “to ensure long-term sustainability” of programming.
“We’re trying to look for bridge funding. We’re trying to find emergency grants and we’re looking for community partnerships and we’ve actually done a fair amount of that work since we had to make this excruciatingly hard decision,” CEO Susan Anderson said.
