There was some humour in a small gathering in The Belleville Club Tuesday evening. A cluster of current and former members of the Kiwanis Club of Belleville and their spouses witnessed the final actions of the club. In keeping with its traditions of community service, especially for children, the club distributed its remaining resources to two prominent local charities – the Belleville General Hospital Foundation and the Children’s Foundation.

The hospital donation particularly was earmarked for enhancement and support of the children’s wing. The cheque for the hospital foundation was more than $4,500; for the Children’s Foundation it was more than $55,000. Spokespeople for both agencies acknowledged the value of such support, citing current costs for needed equipment.
