President Donald Trump announced Thursday he would be backing off his planned deployment of federal troops to San Francisco after speaking with the city’s mayor.

Trump said in a Truth Social post that his friends in the San Francisco area told him not to send the National Guard to the Democratic-led city. He said after speaking with San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, he will give the city a “chance” to address crime rates before sending in federal troops.
