JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - A group of Iowa voters are suing to block a new law that changes how voters elect county supervisors in Johnson, Black Hawk, and Story counties only. The lawsuit argues the new law is unconstitutional.
Signed by Gov. Kim Reynolds in April, the law requires the counties that are home to Iowa’s three public universities to be split into districts to elect county supervisors. The law only applies to those three counties.
A group of 14 registered voters from those three counties filed a lawsuit earlier this month that argues that the new law “uniquely prevents” voters in Johnson, Black Hawk, and Story counties from selecting from other supervisor election plans available to Iowa’s other 96 counties.
