MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — A mother accused of driving under the influence is facing charges in connection with a fatal crash that claimed the life of her young child.

Muskegon County Prosecutor DJ Hilson confirmed that law enforcement arrested Sandra Saldana, and she's now facing OWI charges in her 6-year-old daughter's death.

The fatal crash happened Tuesday, Oct. 21, around 3:30 p.m. on Holton Road near E. Michillinda Drive.

A vehicle headed south on Holton Road rear-ended another car going the same direction. The impact of the crash sent both vehicles into northbound traffic, the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office said.

Law enforcement said a third vehicle struck the first car. The collision ejected the 6-year-old passenger, and the girl died at the scene.
