The Max S. Baucus Institute is expanding its Montana footprint with the addition of a Bozeman-based program manager — part of an effort to connect students to public service and leadership opportunities around the world.

Amber Vestal, a longtime higher education professional and former executive assistant to recently retired Montana State University President Waded Cruzado, will lead the Baucus Institute’s Bozeman operations. Her position, backed by a $500,000, two-year grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, marks the expansion of the institute’s presence in the valley and its partnership with MSU.

The institute was founded in 2017 by Max Baucus, a former U.S. senator and ambassador to China Max Baucus who lives in Bozeman, and his wife, Mel Hanes Baucus. It runs various leaders
