NEW YORK (PIX11) – An E-ZPass billing error caused some people to be overcharged for tolls in October, according to the New York State Bridge Authority.

New York and New Jersey drivers on the NYSBA Commuter Plan may have seen “erroneous charges” when crossing the Bear Mountain, Newburgh-Beacon, Mid-Hudson, Kingston-Rhinecliff, and Rip Van Winkle bridges between Oct. 9 and 10. Around 8,000 accounts are believed to have been affected by the error, according to the NYSBA.

The plan only charges $1.40 per trip to cross one of the bridges. To qualify for the plan, drivers must take at least 17 trips during a 30-day billing cycle.

Customers who don’t take the minimum number of crossings could be charged $1.40 per trip and appear on their plan as “Unused Commuter Trips.”
