Former SC Elections Executive Director Howard Knapp arrested

COLUMBIA — Former S.C. Election Commission director Howard Knapp and his former deputy , Margaret Paige Salonich, were arrested early this morning.

Knapp faces a litany of charges ranging from embezzlement to misuse of public office and financial gain. He is currently being held at the Richland County jail.

There are no other court records publicly available for Salonich other than her arrest record. It is unclear if she’s been charged with anything.

On the lengthy list of allegations, including eight total charges for use of office for financial gain, Knapp is also charged with:

One count of embezzlement of public funds of a value less than $10,000

One count of misconduct in office, malfeasance, misfeasance, or nonfeasance

One count of accessory after the fact to a felony.
