ORANGE, Texas — The Orange Fire Department evacuated a truck stop and restaurant late Thursday night after a trailer loaded with a sulfur and carbon mixture began smoking in the parking lot.
Firefighters were sent at about 10 p.m. to the Flying J Truck stop on Highway 62, where they found smoke coming from the trailer, Deputy Fire Chief Payton Smith said. The product inside the container was burning he said.
When firefighters got there, they determined that the product in the container could be a hazardous situation, a firefighter at the scene told a 12News crew.
Authorities evacuated the Flying J Truck Stop and an adjacent Denny's restaurant as a precaution. Highway 62 was closed and all other 18-wheelers in the parking lot were moved from the area.
