A growing number of Americans believe political violence is escalating nationwide, according to a new Pew Research Center survey.

An overwhelming majority of Americans, 85%, said political violence in the United States has been increasing, according to the survey. Another 12% of Americans said political violence has stayed about the same, while 3% said that it was decreasing.

The poll was conducted in the wake of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination and a number of politically motivated attacks that occurred earlier this year. After Kirk’s killing, President Donald Trump and his MAGA allies were quick to blame Democrats’ rhetoric for the rise of political violence, arguing that only the “radical left” is responsible for the incidents.
