The federal government is still shut down. Here's what that means across the country

The federal government shutdown continues and Republicans and Democrats appear no closer to an agreement to end it.
The Senate failed to advance a pair of competing measures to pay at least some federal employees during the government shutdown.
It's payday for many federal employees who will not be receiving a paycheck — the first full paycheck they've missed as part of the shutdown. By law federal workers are supposed to get back pay once the shutdown ends, but the White House has tried to cast doubt on that.
