Austin Butler is in talks to star in the upcoming Miami Vice reboot movie alongside Michael B. Jordan .
Deadline is reporting that Austin would play the role of James “Sonny” Crockett while Michael will take on the part of Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs.
The roles were originally played by Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas in the 1980s TV series and Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx in the 2006 movie adaptation.
Deadline notes that “no deals are done,” but Austin is “engaging and interested.” Michael ‘s deal is also in “early days.” The movie will shoot later in 2026.
Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski will be directing the movie with a script by Eric Warren Singer and Dan Gilroy . The movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2027
