MCCOOK, Neb. (KSNB) - A Nebraska judge heard arguments Friday over a lawsuit challenging Governor Jim Pillen’s plan to convert the McCook Work Ethic Camp into an ICE detention facility.
Nebraska Appleseed originally filed the lawsuit on October 15 on behalf of former state senator DiAnna Schimek and 13 other McCook residents against Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen as well as Rob Jeffreys, the Director of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.
The lawsuit requested a temporary restraining order and a temporary injunction to stop the project. The court denied the emergency request on October 16 .
Friday’s hearing was over the request by Governor Pillen’s legal team to throw the case out, arguing that the case should not go forward. They felt more defendants needed to be added, a
