New regulations could soon be in place for hemp businesses throughout Alabama.
The Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board drafted the regulations for hemp businesses at its Oct. 9 meeting. They come after Alabama lawmakers passed legislation in early 2025 to regulate synthetic hemp, like Delta-8 and Delta-9.
The rules are the first major attempt at regulating hemp sales in the state. Previously, the primary rule was that buyers had to be at least 21 years old. The new regulations cover almost every aspect of buying hemp products, including things like THC dosage and bottle labels.
In the wake of the Legislative changes, several small hemp businesses closed , citing concerns the regulations wouldn’t allow them to sell enough products to remain open.
