RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A California father and his 4-year-old son are receiving widespread praise after security footage of their good deed went viral, showing them protecting a newly opened candy store from potential theft.
Conner Smith and his young son Charlie discovered the Uptown Candy Shop's doors left unlocked after closing time at a shopping center in Riverside on Tuesday. Rather than walking away, Smith made it a teachable moment for his son.
"We need to go find the security guard and tell him this place is unlocked," Smith can be heard telling Charlie in the now-viral video.
The pair located a phone number for the property's security company and returned to wait patiently outside the store. Smith read the bulk candy rules aloud to his son as they stood guard until security arrive
