Shillong, Oct 24: The South West Khasi Hills district unit of the Khasi Students’ Union today requested the public to join in the observance of its Anti-Uranium Day on October 28, which coincides with the death anniversary of Spility L Langrin.

Langrin famously rejected crores of rupees for her land in Domiasiat, an area rich in uranium. She died in 2020 at the age of 95.

The KSU’s commemoration will take place in Domiasiat. The pressure group said that Langrin exemplified courage and unwavering principle by rejecting the promise of monetary wealth in order to hold on to her land.

The KSU also reaffirmed its pledge to thwart any attempts to mine uranium in Domiasiat and Mawthabah, an issue that has once again come to the fore.
