A scheduled Air New Zealand flight between Christchurch and Sydney was forced to make an emergency landing on Friday, October 24. The flight, operating at NZ211, experienced a hydraulic failure mid-flight, as the aircraft was halfway across the Tasman Sea.

As a precaution, emergency services at Australia's busiest airport, Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD), were on standby and met the aircraft on its arrival. The Airbus A320neo was able to land safely and was met by emergency crews and an engineering team. Subsequently, a local engineering team is now undertaking a thorough inspection to ensure the aircraft will be safe to return to scheduled service.
