Two former executives at a St. Paul substance abuse treatment center have pleaded guilty in a years-long, multi-million dollar Medicaid fraud scheme.

Attorney General Keith Ellison announced Wednesday former Evergreen Recovery CEO Shantel Magadanz and CFO Heather Heim have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

They were indicted on federal charges last December, accused of overbilling the Department of Human Services and UCare for substance abuse treatment services they did not provide.

The company’s owner, Shawn Grygo, has also been indicted on wire fraud and money laundering charges, but has not entered a guilty plea.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the pair created chart entries weeks or months after the purported date of service.
