HERRICKS, Long Island (PIX11) --- A Long Island man who allegedly threatened his estranged wife that he would make her drink bleach is accused of killing her with a cyanide-like powder, police said Friday.

Asif Qureshi, 53, was charged with second-degree murder a week after his 46-year-old wife was found dead in her Herricks home, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Aleena Asif was found unconscious with facial burns in the home on Larch Drive during a wellness check at around 3:50 p.m. on Oct. 17, police said. Asif's 18-year-old daughter called 911 because she was concerned when her mom didn't pick up her 7-year-old sister from school.
