One of the Twin Cities' most distinctive winter traditions, the Art Shanty Projects, has unveiled details for its 2026 installment.

The art-centric village will set up on Bdé Uman/Lake Harriet from Jan. 17 to Feb. 8, featuring 20 shanties that will sit on the frozen lake — as long as there is a frozen lake — throughout the month.

The 2026 program also features 20 performances and art auctions that will occur at various times throughout its run, including icy yoga, theatrical presentations of poetry, and square dancing.

Each year, the Art Shanty Projects invites artists to propose unique structures and activities that will take place on a frozen lake, offering community-centered, open-air activities.
