On Friday, the Social Security Administration announced a 2026 COLA increase of 2.8%. The same rate is used for military retirees and those receiving VA disability payments after Congressional legislation passed in 2024, aligning veterans benefits with Social Security increases.

COLA increases are designed to ensure that benefits keep up with inflation.

The COLA increase was supposed to be released on Oct.15, but the government shutdown delayed the release.
