Multiple fire departments were battling a "very active fire" in a wooded area near Pearl River that was threatening multiple homes, garages and outbuildings on Friday afternoon.
Fire departments from Slidell, Abita Springs and Pearl River, as well as the state forestry service, were responding on Friday afternoon to a fire that stretched across multiple acres, according to Mitchell Geissler, a spokesperson for Pearl River's fire department, St. Tammany Fire District No. 11.
"It's pushing quick, it's pushing towards the east," said Geissler, who was on scene.
A few boats and vehicles have already caught fire and multiple structures could be in danger, he said. There is no generalized evacuation order, but firefighters are making sure people in endangered structures evacuate.
