JACKSON, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - As the government shutdown continues with lawmakers heading home for the weekend, small businesses in Jackson are maintaining their regular service to federal workers who missed paychecks Friday.

The town of Jackson in Aiken County is largely employed by the Savannah River Site, where many workers are furloughed or working without pay. At Papa’s Kitchen, owner Jessica Davenport said her father started the business in 2017.

“I was not interested in being in the serving industry anymore, but he loved the idea of owning a restaurant and we ended up switching places,” Davenport said. “He absolutely hated running a restaurant and I fell in love with it.”
