WINCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) - It’s been one week since police say 35-year-old Ava Brantley was killed by her ex-boyfriend in Winchester.

Police say 38-year-old Tyler Snowden turned the gun on himself after he shot Ava.

Police also say she had a domestic violence protection order against Snowden.

Now, many are calling for a change. A petition is asking for “Ava’s Law” to be put into place.

“If that was a thing, then Ava may still be here today, or at least she would’ve had a fighting chance,” Jon Wooton, Ava’s ex-husband says.

Creators of the petition are asking for a mandatory 24-48 hour detainment for the accused if someone files a protection order against them and they have previous domestic violence charges.
