MCMINN COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - McMinn County Schools has announced that all of its schools and the district office will be closed on Friday following the death of McMinn County Director of Schools, Dr. Julie Goodin.

On Thursday, the district announced on social media that Dr. Goodin passed away unexpectedly. She began her role as Director of Schools this past July.

To allow for students and staff time to grieve, MCS said all schools and the district office will be closed on Oct. 24.

According to the district, Friday will be an optional professional development day for faculty and staff to gather, receive grief counseling and lean on one another.

The district says support services will also be available for students and staff who may need it in the coming days.
