It was a bit messy as far as municipal elections go, but the new Edmonton city council has been finalized after election results were released Friday at noon.
Eight councillors are returning to their seats, joined by four newcomers — two of which ran under the Better Edmonton party brand.
Seven of the councillors are women, a slight drop from eight elected in 2021.
Who’s new?
Carrying on the tradition of Edmonton Transit drivers ascending to city council, Jon Morgan also has the distinction of being the lone person to unseat an incumbent councillor, winning Ward Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi with nearly 37 per cent of the vote.
Morgan has worked in Edmonton Transit for 20 years, starting as a bus driver and working his way up to superintendent. He’s received the Queen’s Jubilee Award for outs
