LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Louisville leaders are teaming up to make sure every JCPS student has a warm coat this winter.
This fall marks the fifth annual Chase Gavin Coat-A-Kid drive.
Gavin helped launch the drive while working for then Metro Councilman David Yates.
Yates, who is now serving as Interim Jefferson County Clerk, is helping to keep it going, alongside Metro Councilman Khalil Batshon.
They are collecting new coats of all sizes that will be distributed through JCPS schools to kids who need them.
“There’s nothing like going to the bus stop, seeing a kid that does not have a coat and shivering,” said Gavin’s uncle, Nathan Morgan Sr. “That’s just uncalled for, and we’re gonna make that happen. Every kid is gonna get a coat that needs one.”
