PEORIA, Ill. (WAND) - The first week of testimony in the Sean Grayson murder trial has concluded, and the family of Sonya Massey is opening up about how they’re coping as the case unfolds in court.

Grayson, a former Sangamon County deputy, faces charges of first-degree murder in the 2023 shooting death of 36-year-old Sonya Massey. Prosecutors say the incident occurred after Massey called 911 for help at her home.

Throughout the week, jurors heard from several witnesses — including law enforcement officers, crime scene analysts, and first responders. The prosecution also replayed body camera footage from the night of the shooting — video that Massey’s family says remains difficult to watch.
