With Delhi gearing up for a grand Chhath Puja celebration from Saturday, the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) department has sought an additional Rs 33.03 crore from the government in Revised Estimates for development of ghats to host devotees who would perform the puja across the city.
According to an internal document, the government has already allocated Rs 21 crore to develop Chhath Puja ghats in the 2025-26 Budget Estimates. Among this, the department has spent 17.14% of the allocated funds until October 12.
In the Revised Estimates, the department has submitted a list of 111 projects it intends to take up to develop ghats for Chhath Puja. Of these, 21 works have been completed and one is in progress. “As many as 89 works are yet to be started.
